Characteristics:
A very rare, large, (4 to 5 ½ feet long) defensive snake with a loud hiss, a vibrating tail that results in a whirr if in dry grasses or leaves, large heavily keeled scales, and a feisty disposition. If encountered while above ground it will often elevate its head well above body level and strike savagely from a modified coil. It is a powerful constrictor. This snake has a yellowish head with an enlarged rostral (nosetip) scale and a yellowish ground color that is darkest anteriorly. Dorsally it is heavily pigmented anteriorly a feature that may partially obscure the dark anterior blotches. Posterior blotches are readily discernible. Belly is yellow with prominent black markings.

The anterior muddled pattern vs the cleancut posterior pattern and the enlarged rostral scale will identify this snake.
