Characteristics:

The range of this small (2-3’ long) subspecies is restricted to two of California’s Channel Islands. Markings are black anteriorly and posteriorly and are medium brown at midbody. The black anterior markings tend to fuse in a jagged, haphazard, manner. Ground color is olive-tan to olive–brown. Orange interstitial (the skin between the scales) flecking may be present posteriorly. Dark lateral markings are also present. Occurs in CA, Santa Cruz Island only.

 

Unique Features:

Small size and restricted range will identify this subspecies.

 

Habitat and Diet:

Pretty much throughout Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. Primarily feeds on Lizards and small mammals.
