Characteristics:

3 to 4 feet is the average adult length of this slender, racer-fast, speedster. Each of the dorsal and lateral scales is tricolored—hidden fore-edge, blue; center, yellow, exposed trailing-edge, black. The overall effect is of an intense speckling. Belly white to pale yellow. Depending on the actual viewing, the snake can appear black, yellow, or green. This snake prefers brushy or sparsely wooded areas and may often be seen near water. Smooth scales in 17 rows. Oviparous. Hatchlings similar to adults
