In appearance this 8 to 16 inch long, smooth-scaled, burrowing snake looks like a miniature hog-nosed snake. Rostral (nosetip) scale strongly upturned but not keeled on top. It is gray to brown in color with numerous darker crossbars or spots along the back. The head is largely unpatterned. The belly is white. It often emerges during or following rain. Scales smooth in 17 rows. Oviparous
