Characteristics:

This high altitude rattler is adult at 20-24 inches. It is gray to brown with, as the common name suggests, 2 rows of spots down the back. A light-edged dark facial stripe extends rearward from each eye to the back of the jaw. This is a rock dwelling rattlesnake, often being found in rock slides, rocky woodlands, or woodland openings near talus. Note the vertical pupils and infrared sensing pit between, but lower than, the nostril and eye. Ovoviviparous. Scales keeled

Talus and nearby montane woodlands. Preys primarily on lizards.
