Characteristics:
This pencil thin burrowing snake is adult at 8-11inches. The black cap extends about 3 scale rows posterior to the parietal scales and has a straight to weakly convex posterior edge. There is a light collar. There are often a few scattered black scales edging the rear of the white collar. Posteriorly the cap extends downward past the mouthline. There is a white patch on each side of the face involving 4 or 5 of the posterior upper labials. Belly white anteriorly and becoming salmon posteriorly. Scales smooth in 15 rows. Oviparous.
