Sides may darken as age increases causing lateral spots to become largely obscured. Light belly. Use range as well as appearance to identify subspecies.
Unique Features:
A powerful constrictor with characteristic red saddles on the posterior body and tail.
Habitat and Diet:
Sparsely wooded areas with a substrate of oolitic limestone. These snakes spend much of their time in rocky subterranean “dens.” They primarily feed on mammals, birds, reptiles (lizards).
